Students are introduced to the principles and elements of design (art), music theory and practice (music), basic movement, vocalization, storytelling and characterization (theatre), and communication and technology. All students will take one quarter of each class. Order of classes not guaranteed. Please note: No textbooks are required. Classroom Expectations (Show your Rider PRIDE!): Personal Responsibility: Bring supplies to class daily: PENCILS, ERASER, pens, paper, A.C.T. Foundations notebook, and any other materials required for each class. Respect: Treat fellow students, teachers, and others with respect. Integrity: Push yourself to work hard. Put your best work forward and be proud of what you share. Effort, cooperation, and participation will be rewarded. Attitude and cooperation warrants additional participation in showcases. Discipline/Diligence: Be present and ON TIME daily, ready to learn. Empathy: Cooperation in group activities and willingness to share work. Encourage others to share. Give and receive constructive criticism for all to become better artists. Homework and Grading: Complete and turn in all assignments on time. No late work can or will be accepted. All work is scored with rubrics to be distributed per class. Assessments include daily attendance, on task participation, completion of work, discussion and cooperation, and any in class performances. Late work credit, if any, is at each Foundation teacher’s discretion. Attendance Policy: This course meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday for one full year; however, each section for one quarter per class: art (9 weeks), music (9 weeks), theatre (9 weeks), and communication/technology (9 weeks). It is imperative and expected that students attend every class, every week. If students are absent, whether excused or unexcused, during any pre-planned performances or tests, students may not be able to retake or makeup the performances or tests. Teacher discretion will be used to determine any credit awarded and makeup options. See ACT attendance policy. REQUIRED OPPORTUNITIES * At least one A.C.T. Showcase on Wednesday during each quarter (one time per class: art, music, theatre, & communication/technology) * At least one additional performance per quarter (one time per class; 4 total) OPTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES * Evening Performances (optional performance opportunities will be announced, such as ACTing Showcase) * Participation in Drama Club/Thespians, Art Club, Music Club, etc. You must attend school at least one half day in order to participate in any after school opportunities. No pass, no play policy applies, too. | |
