Night of the Living Dead
Fall out from a satellite probe shot to Venus returns to Earth carrying a mysterious radiation that transforms the unburied dead into flesh-eating zombies. Seven people trapped in an isolated farmhouse, held hostage by the ravenous ghouls, begin to turn on each other as the dead encroach. A gripping terror-filled monochromatic play that brings all the fright of the cult classic to life. This blend of thrilling horror laced with touches of black humor envelops the audience in the action and unfolds into a shocking theatrical ending. (Roosevelt's Opening Act Theatre Company)
D.O.A.
Frank Bigelow walks into a police station to report a murder: his own. One day earlier, the small-time accountant kissed his girlfriend and secretary, Paula, goodbye and left on a trip to San Francisco with mysterious intentions. Shortly after he arrives, he's invited to join a group of rowdy businessmen celebrating with their clients after a successful market week. After a wild night of drinking at jazz clubs with sexy women, he wakes feeling ill. A doctor and detective arrive to deliver tragic news—Bigelow has been poisoned, and he only has hours left to live. Bigelow frantically searches the city for his killer and the reason he was targeted. Each person he encounters gives him a piece of the story that includes a mysterious suicide, a shady business deal gone wrong, and conniving women. But can he believe anything he hears? Paula desperately searches for answers as Frank phones home with cryptic questions and an ever-increasing sense of doom. Will he unravel the mystery before his time runs out? Will the killer be brought to justice? An adaptation of the 1950s classic noir film, D.O.A. is a swiftly moving thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. With cigar-smoking detectives and gun-toting femme fatales, D.O.A. includes all the noir tropes plus updates to the story that will appeal to modern audiences. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. This whimsical story, set closer to the time Roosevelt was founded, is based on a collection of short stories by A.A. Milne. These stories are based on a small bear from Winnipeg, Canada who was born in 1914 and traveled with a serviceman in London at the onset of WWI. It was here that Milne, himself a serviceman, was introduced to Winnie, later the name of his son Christopher’s teddy bear, for one of the most cherished characters in all of children’s literature. Winnie-the-Pooh is Christopher Robin's fat little "bear of very little brain" who would like to drift peacefully through life, humming tunes and stopping frequently to eat "a little something." However, he finds himself involved in all sorts of frantic adventures, assisted by such friends as the dismal Eeyore, Piglet and Rabbit, with his countless relations. Pooh's intentions are always the best, but his passion for honey and condensed milk keeps getting him into trouble. When friend Piglet gets roped into Kanga's household and Kanga starts bathing him (with soap!) and forcing down spoonfuls of Strengthening Medicine, Pooh wants to fly to the rescue, but he's had so many snacks he gets stuck in the door. A.A. Milne's wit and special understanding of young people make this one of the most successful plays available.

By the end of 1928, all three Fail sisters will be dead -- expiring in reverse order, youngest to oldest, from blunt object to the head, disappearance, and finally consumption. Tuneful songs, and a whimsical chorus follow the story of Nelly, Jenny June, and Gerty as they live out their lives above the family clock repair shop near the Chicago River, before their time unexpectedly runs out. A magical, musical fable that weaves in and out of time, where, in the end, the power of love is far greater than any individual's successes or failures.

Traveling forward in time…Accusations, mistaken identities, and romances run wild in this traditional, laugh-out-loud farce. Two nuns at the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing have been secretly making wine to keep the convent's doors open, but Paul and Sally, reporters and former fiancees, are hot on their trail. They go undercover as a nun and priest, but their presence, combined with the addition of a new nun, spurs paranoia throughout the convent that spies have been sent from Rome to shut them down. Wine and secrets are inevitably spilled as everyone tries to preserve the convent and reconnect with lost loves.

SEASON 2020-2021
“UNCONVENTIONAL ACTS”
Unconventional acts are defined as "not being based in anything generally done or believed". Certainly, it is unbelievable that we are in a global pandemic. Theatre generally isn't done in a virtual space. We normally do not have students write or direct plays until the end of their senior year. This year is different all around. That's why our season is themed as "Unconventional Acts." We are going to explore the unconventional in the acts we present, lifting up student voices and their experiences.
No matter what, we will make theatre happen TOGETHER.

Welcome to Almost, Maine, a town that's so far north, it's almost not in the United States; it's almost in Canada. And it almost doesn't exist. Because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it's just. Almost.
One cold, clear Friday night in the middle of winter, while the northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in the strangest ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. Love is lost, found, and confounded. And life for the people of Almost, Maine will never be the same.
ALMOST, MAINE: It's love. But not quite.

The play is a character study of a developmentally disabled man, Charlie Gordon, who has the opportunity to undergo a surgical procedure that will dramatically increase his mental capabilities. This procedure had already been performed on a laboratory mouse named Algernon, with remarkable results. In a series of progress reports, Charlie documents everything that happens to him and the unexpected results of surgery. The play challenges the audience to see the world from more than just their point of view and ultimately question who really knows best about anyone else's intelligence, life, love, and experiences.

But still the homesick prince longs for the changing seasons of his village and begs the princess to let him go back. The fisherman/prince thinks that he's only been gone for a few days, but on his return to land, he makes the shattering discovery that many, many years have passed. By William Gleason
Based on the film by Blake Edwards and Frank Waldman
Produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois
Thursday-Saturday, November 4-6, 2010 @ 7 P.M. in the RHS Auditorium
The world's most unusual criminologist, Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau - a role originally created by Peter Sellers - fights for his life and for the future of all mankind in the most bizarre and dangerous caper of his brilliantly successful and utterly clumsy career. Paul Dreyfus, once his long-suffering boss, now turned into a raving lunatic, holds the world at bay with the ultimate weapon - The Doomsday Machine. Dreyfus is out to get Clouseau, the man whose undeserved success has driven him crazy, and he threatens to vaporize continents if the nations of the world don't deliver Clouseau to him - alive or, if at all possible, dead! Blissfully unaware of the army of deadly assassins gunning for him, or that the beautiful girl who seeks him out is a Russian agent, Clouseau incredibly stumbles and slips by every attack. However, the world is running out of time because the increasingly-frustrated Dreyfus, doodling with the Doomsday Machine, is running out of patience. At the critical moment, it suddenly appears that Clouseau is finally running out of luck but as that fateful moment arrives, Clouseau fires from the hip and hits - our funnybone!
The Yellow Boat
By David Saar
Produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois
Thursday-Saturday, December 2-4, 2010 @ 7 P.M. in the RHS Auditorium
The play is based on the true story of David and Sonja Saar's son, Benjamin, who was born with congenital hemophilia in the 1980s and required blood transfusions prior to the blood supply being tested for disease. Benjamin was the first AIDS-related death in Arizona. A uniquely gifted visual artist, Benjamin's bouyant imagination transformed his physical and emotional pain into a blaze of colors and shapes in his fanciful drawings and paintings. The story of The Yellow Boat, based on a Scandinavian folksong, is a glorious affirmation of a child's life, and the strength and courage of all children.
"One was blue, one was red, and one was yellow as the sun. They sailed far out to sea. The blue one returned to the harbor. The red one sailed home too. But the yellow boat sailed up to the sun."

by Craig Sodaro
Produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Services

Touring in April
This important play for young children teaches a critical lesson about prejudice in a simplistic, non-preachy manner. The story is told by an old tree, who stands neglected in a park. On one side of the park live the poetry loving Greens. On the other side of the park the Blues reside, where they enjoy playing musical instruments. Sadly, there is nothing but intolerance, fear and hatred between the Greens and the Blues. Why? No one quite remembers, but these ingrained feelings diminish the quality of everybody's lives, including the poor tree, who is left abandoned in the middle. When a storm brings the aqua and purple Allina to the park, both the Greens and the Blues learn some eye-opening lessons about each other and about life. This thought-provoking piece is ideal for touring and leaves the audience ready to launch into contemplative discussions and problem solving as children explore their own beliefs about stereotyping and prejudice.

The story retells the strange, appealing, and utterly fascinating story of the two mentally-disturbed adolescents: David, the only song of wealthy parents, over-protected by a dominating mother, who is tortured by his mania against being touched; and Lisa, the waif who has never known parental love, who has developed a split personality and is in effect two different girls, one of whom will speak only in childish rhymes and insists upon being spoken to in the same manner. The play follows them during one term at Berkley School through exhilarating progress and depressing retrogression.

See How They Run
A Hilarious British Farce by Philip King
Thursday-Saturday, March 12-14, 2009 @ 7:00 P.M.
Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
Set during World War II, this hilarious British farce is a classic English comedy not to be missed. The lead character is Penelope Toop, former actress and now wife of the local vicar, The Rev. Lionel Toop. Miss Skillon, a churchgoer of the parish and a scold, arrives on bicycle to gossip with the vicar and to complain about the latest 'outrages' that Penelope has caused. The vicar then leaves for the night, and an old friend of Penelope's, Lance-Corporal Clive Winton, stops by on a quick visit. In order to dodge army regulations, he changes from his uniform into Lionel's second-best suit, complete with a clerical 'dog-collar' in order to see a production of "Private Lives" (a Noël Coward play in which they had appeared together in their acting days), while pretending to be the visiting vicar Arthur Humphrey who is due to preach the Sunday sermon the next day. Just before they set out, Penelope and Clive re-enact one of their scenes from "Private Lives" and manage to knock Miss Skillon (who has come back unannounced) unconscious. Miss Skillon, wrongly thinking she has seen Lionel fighting with Penelope, gets drunk on a bottle of cooking sherry and Ida, the Toop’s Cockney maid, hides her in the broom cupboard. Then Toop, arriving back, is taken prisoner by an escaping German prisoner-of-war from a nearby camp, who takes his clerical clothes as a disguise. To add to the confusion, both the real Humphrey, and Penelope's uncle, The Bishop of Lax, unexpectedly show up early. Chaos quickly ensues, culminating in a cycle of running figures, most dressed as clergy.
